Production Diary

Production Diary

Week 1-2:In these two weeks we learnt how to use blogger successfully and that themes, characters, location, titles, production logos and establishing the genre were all the conventions of a opening scene. This helps

Week 2-3:
We learnt all the types of camera shots and angles. For example, extreme close up, close up, mid shot, mid long shot, long shot. extreme long shot). We also learnt how to analysis a still image using mise en scene and clamps.

Week 3-4:
We learnt about genre signifiers and what things are used to show what the films genre is and how you can normally tell what the genre is within the first 2-5 minutes of the films. This helped me to know what must be included in my opening scene to make sure the audience know what the genre is.

Week 4-5:Within these two weeks we started to complete our preliminary task. We had to pick a genre from a list and create a 30secs-1 min opening with the use of the 180 degree rule and use a shot/reverse shot. The opening also had to include a character crossing the room and then he/she had to sit down opposite to another character.

Week 5-6:
We had to finish and edit our opening scene from last week and then upload it to our blog so we could analysis it. We had to write what want well with it and what changes i would make to it. We also had to have the script and the storyboard uploaded with it.

Week 6-7:
We were given the next task of recreating the opening scene of Juno. First we had to write down every shot that was shown so we could then keep referring back to them when recreating our own Juno opening sequence. We were given a week to finish and edit the opening.

Week 7-8:
Within the last few weeks we have been finishing anything that had to be completed and complete out Juno opening sequences and edit them fully.

AS Media Perliminary Task- Juno

Reflection:

What Went Well:

We managed to complete the entire shot list that we had to do. This helped us film because then we knew what we was doing when it came to filming each shot. We managed to complete all the filming and editing within the time given.

To Improve:

Some of our shots weren't completely right because we didn't have time to go back and re-film those shots, next time I would of like to re-film the shots we didnt like or wasnt the best quality.
Our shot list wasn't very accurate which meant when it came to filming day, we only got the list of what each shot was.
Another main problem was that we couldn't film it all in one day which meant that each day we filmed ou actors and actresses was wearing different clothes, this was annoying because it didn't match at the end when it was all editied together it looked weird because each shot the actor had different clothes. As a result of this for our proper film opening I would want the characters to wear the same clothes the whole way though so it doesn't look unorganised and miss-matched.
Filming the lower parts of the body was hard because, it was so low down us filming couldn't track with the actors. If on my proper film opening we had to film the feet then I would suggest that maybe we could use a skateboard to sit on because then it would be easier to go along with the actor and the recording wont be shakey or unfocused. To improve I think we should of used a tri-pod because then on some of the shots it wouldn't be as shakey, then we would have something to rest the camera to make the shot smooth
Also filming the high angles were hard because we couldn't find a place where we could do it properly and it would look right, but because we were at school we had to use our imagination to find places where we could film which was hard. Next time we would have to prepare for these shots and oraganise where we would film them.
Editing came with a few problems: We found that we couldn't get the timings right, so if we could re-do it again then I would of liked to get the timings right because then we would be close enough to the opening scene of Juno. Another problem when editing was putting the title “JUNO”in. It wasn't the same as the one from the film as the font is different but we found the closest we could. Also with editing getting the trasistions right betweeen shots, not all of ours are correct in our video but, we tried to get the closests we could with these aswell. .

Preliminary Task Storyboard

Preliminary Task Opening Sequence

Evaluation-

When reflecting on our preliminary task we looked at what could be improved, developed and also the making of it.

Firstly we found that it was filmed in a very dark area, which we initially wanted to signify the genre of the opening sequence. Although we found that this hindered our preliminary task as being so dark caused the quality to decrease and the film opening to appear much less professional. Due to this we found that lighting is very important and learnt that when filming our final film opening to ensure that we steered clear of dark areas but if we did need so we would make sure that the quality was up to standard we wanted to achieve. We found that we could do this by having more lighting that we originally used and by taking our time and re-filming any scenes that wasn't to the top quality.

Secondly, the speech within the film was also of a bad quality. We found that it was unclear for the audience to use. If filming with speech again we have learnt to now use a voice over technique to ensure that the sound is perfectly clear and heard by any audience.

Preliminary Task

Low Budget and High Budget With Feeback Added

Teacher Assesment

www: Excellent detail shown here, clearly considering the differences between the two.

EBI: Look carefully at the different companies - Paramount was the DISTRIBUTOR for the film, NOT the production company. Therefore, would help to get the film onto the market, but did not actually make the film. The distributor was Blumhouse Productions and Solana Films. Be careful when doing research like this, as the differences are huge!
